Strikethrough Text Generator
Type your text and get it crossed out with a line you can paste into any app: "sold out" becomes "s̶o̶l̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶". The line is part of the text itself, so it stays when you copy it between apps.
The preview is shortened. Copy and Download include the whole result.
Your text never leaves your device.
Styled text is made of special Unicode symbols, not a real font. Screen readers may read it letter by letter or skip it, and search may not find it, so don't use it for important information such as names, links or contact details.
How to use
- Type or paste the text you want to cross out.
- The struck-through version appears immediately, with the line running through spaces too.
- Copy it and paste it into your post, comment, bio or message.

What crossed-out text says
A line through words keeps them readable while marking them as no longer valid. On social media that is useful in a few specific ways:
- Prices and offers: “w̶a̶s̶ ̶$̶5̶0̶, now $35” shows the discount at a glance. Strike only the old price.
- Corrections in public: fix a mistake in a post or comment without hiding what was there, which is more honest than silently editing.
- Jokes and asides: “I l̶o̶v̶e̶ tolerate Mondays” says one thing and means another; the crossed-out word is the punchline.
- Lists and updates: mark finished items or sold-out sizes in a caption: “S̶ ̶M̶ L XL”.
How it differs from real strikethrough
Word processors and email apps store strikethrough as formatting: the letters are normal and a style draws the line. This generator changes the characters instead, by adding a combining stroke after each one. That is why it works in apps with no formatting at all, and also why it has side effects: search does not find the words, the character count doubles, and screen readers may announce the stroke for every letter or skip the text. The generator also strikes through spaces, so the line is continuous across the phrase; if you want it on single words only, strike them one by one.
Common mistakes
- Striking through text that people need to read. Keep important details plain; a struck-through word should be one the reader can ignore.
- Pasting it into a document. In Word or Google Docs, use the real strikethrough (Alt+Shift+5 in Google Docs, the abc button in Word). It prints cleanly and stays editable.
- Hitting character limits. Every letter becomes two characters, so a 150-character Instagram bio fits only about 75 struck-through characters.
- Striking through already struck text. Pasting the result back in is safe: the generator removes its own existing strokes first, so you never get a double line.
Frequently asked questions
How do I cross out text on Instagram, Facebook or X?
These apps have no strikethrough button. Type the text here, copy the result and paste it into your post or comment. Each character carries its own line, so the strikethrough shows for everyone who reads it.
How does it work without formatting?
After every character, the generator adds the Unicode "combining long stroke overlay" (U+0336). A combining character draws on top of the character before it instead of taking its own space, so the strokes join into one line through the word.
How do I strike through text in Discord, WhatsApp or Slack?
Use the app's own formatting, which is cleaner and accessible: ~~text~~ in Discord and Reddit, ~text~ in WhatsApp and Slack. Use this generator for apps without formatting.
Why does the line have gaps or look misaligned?
The stroke is drawn by the font of the app that shows it, at a height that suits most letters. With some fonts it sits slightly high or low, and between letters of different widths you may see tiny gaps. It looks best in the default fonts of iOS, Android, Windows and macOS.
Does strikethrough work with accents, Cyrillic and emoji?
Accented letters and other alphabets work: each letter gets its line, and an accent typed as a separate mark stays on its letter. Emoji are left without a line, because a stroke through a colored picture is drawn badly by most phones. Line breaks are kept.
