Reverse Text Generator

Paste text to write it backwards: "Hello world" becomes "dlrow olleH". You can also reverse only the order of the words, or reverse the letters inside each word while the words stay in place. Emoji, flags and accented letters are kept whole.

How to use

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Choose Reverse letters, Reverse word order or Reverse each word.
  3. Copy the result. Each line is reversed on its own, so line breaks stay where they were.

Examples

  • Before
    Hello world
    After
    dlrow olleH
  • Before
    one two three
    After
    three two one
  • Before
    Hello world
    After
    olleH dlrow
  • Before
    I ❤️ café
    After
    éfac ❤️ I

Three ways to reverse

  • Reverse letters turns the whole line around, character by character. It is the classic “backwards text”: “Good morning” becomes “gninrom dooG”.
  • Reverse word order keeps every word readable and only changes their sequence: “to be or not” becomes “not or be to”. Useful for reversing lists written on one line, or for word puzzles.
  • Reverse each word mirrors the letters inside every word but leaves the words in place: “Good morning” becomes “dooG gninrom”. The sentence keeps its shape, which makes it a popular light code for notes and games.

In every mode each line is processed separately. A poem of four lines comes back as four reversed lines in the same order.

Emoji, accents and other scripts

Text on a screen is not always one code point per visible letter. “é” can be stored as e plus a combining accent, “👍🏽” is two code points and a family emoji can be seven. Reversing code points one by one moves the accent onto the wrong letter or splits the emoji into a plain thumb and a colored square. This tool uses the browser’s own text segmentation (Intl.Segmenter) and reverses complete characters, so Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish İ, Hindi syllables and emoji all survive.

Right-to-left scripts such as Hebrew and Arabic are reversed in storage order. Because the browser displays them right to left, the reversed result appears left to right in the box.

What people use it for

  • Puzzles and escape rooms: write a clue backwards so players must decode it.
  • Palindrome checks: a word that reverses into itself is a palindrome.
  • Social posts and usernames that stand out without special fonts.
  • Testing: developers check how an interface handles unusual strings and right-to-left text.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting rotated letters. Reversing keeps letters upright. For letters turned by 180° use the upside-down text generator.
  • Reversing a whole paragraph as one line. Line breaks stay where they are; to reverse the order of lines, use the line sorter’s Reverse option.
  • Using it to hide secrets. Backwards text is a game, not encryption: anyone can reverse it again in a second.

Everything runs in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write text backwards?

Paste the text above and keep Reverse letters selected. The last character becomes the first: "stressed" turns into "desserts". Copy the result and paste it wherever you need it; it is ordinary text, not an image or a special font.

How do I reverse the order of words?

Choose Reverse word order. "one two three" becomes "three two one"; the letters inside each word do not change, and the spaces between words keep their width. To reverse the order of lines instead, use the Sort lines tool and its Reverse option.

Why do emoji not break when I reverse text?

Many emoji are several code points: 👍🏽 is a thumb plus a skin tone, a flag is two letters, a family is people joined by invisible characters. Simple reversers swap those parts and produce broken symbols. This tool reverses whole visible characters (grapheme clusters), so every emoji and every letter with an accent mark comes out as it went in.

What is the difference between reverse text and upside-down text?

Reverse text only changes the order of characters: the letters stay normal. Upside-down text also replaces each letter with a look-alike rotated by 180°, so the phrase reads when you turn the screen. Mirror text is a third effect that flips letters left to right.

Can I check whether a word is a palindrome?

Yes. Reverse the word and compare: "level" and "racecar" come back unchanged. For phrases, remove spaces and punctuation first and ignore case: "Never odd or even" becomes "neveroddoreven", which reads the same both ways.
