Paragraphs, sentences or words
- Paragraphs fill articles, blog templates and page bodies. Each has 4 to 7 sentences, separated by an empty line, so they paste into most editors as separate paragraphs.
- Sentences suit cards, product descriptions and short intros, where a paragraph is too long.
- Words fit headings, buttons, menu items and table cells: ask for exactly as many as the space should hold. Word mode has no punctuation, so the text works as a title.
Sentences have occasional commas and end with a period, so line breaks, hyphenation and widows look realistic in your typography.
Common mistakes
- Shipping placeholder text. Lorem ipsum on a live page looks broken and gets indexed by search engines. Search your project for “lorem” before every release.
- Designing only for short placeholder text. Real content varies: test layouts with the longest headline and the longest name you expect.
- Using Latin placeholder text for other scripts. Lorem ipsum has Latin word lengths. A layout for Russian, Greek or Arabic needs placeholder text in that script to show real line lengths and line breaks.
- Using placeholder text in user testing. People cannot judge a design they cannot read. Use realistic copy when you show work to users.
Is the generated text original?
The opening sentence is the traditional one. Everything after it is generated randomly from the vocabulary of the classic passage each time you press Generate, so you get a new text on every run, with no fixed paragraphs copied from elsewhere.

What is Lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text used in design and publishing to fill a layout before the real text is ready. It looks like Latin, with realistic word lengths and punctuation, but it is scrambled and means nothing, so readers look at the design instead of reading the content.
Where does Lorem ipsum come from?
It comes from "De finibus bonorum et malorum", a treatise on ethics by Cicero written in 45 BC. Sections 1.10.32–33 contain the phrase "neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet". Typesetters cut and scrambled the passage; "Lorem" is the second half of "dolorem". It became widespread with Letraset transfer sheets in the 1960s and later with desktop publishing software.
Is Lorem ipsum real Latin?
No. It uses Latin words, many of them cut or rearranged, so a Latin reader recognizes fragments but no sentences. That is the point: it has the texture of a Western European language without distracting meaning.
Why does every text start with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet"?
That opening is what designers, clients and developers recognize instantly as placeholder text, which makes it hard to mistake for real content. After the first sentence, the generator builds new random sentences of 6 to 14 words from the traditional Lorem ipsum vocabulary, so long texts do not repeat.
Should I use Lorem ipsum or real text?
Use real or realistic text as soon as you can. Placeholder text hides problems: real headlines are longer, German words wrap differently, and actual product names break narrow buttons. Lorem ipsum is best for early layout and typography, before the copy exists.
