What each case does

Sentence case lowercases the text and capitalizes the first letter of each sentence. A new sentence starts after a period, question mark, exclamation mark or ellipsis followed by a space, and on every new line, so lists and headings come out right. Abbreviations such as “e.g.”, “i.e.” and “vs.” do not end a sentence, and the English pronoun “i” becomes “I”, including in “I’m” and “I’ve”.

lower case and UPPER CASE change every letter. Use lower case to clean up text that was typed in capitals, and UPPER CASE for short labels, buttons and warnings. Long passages in capitals are slow to read.

Title Case follows English headline style. Every word gets a capital except articles (a, an, the), the conjunctions and, but, for, nor, or, and prepositions of up to four letters (as, at, by, from, in, into, of, on, onto, per, to, upon, via, vs, with). Those stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word or follow a colon: “Star Wars: A New Hope”. In hyphenated words each part follows the same rule (“Step-by-Step”). Acronyms such as NASA are kept, and web addresses like example.com are left as typed. Each line is treated as a separate title, so you can convert a whole list of headlines at once.

Capitalized Case capitalizes the first letter of every word, including “of” and “the”. It suits names, product lists and table headers.

aLtErNaTiNg CaSe switches between lowercase and capitals letter by letter, skipping spaces and punctuation. It is mostly used for mocking quotes in memes and chats.

iNVERSE cASE swaps the case of every letter. It is the quickest fix for text typed with Caps Lock on by mistake: “hELLO tHERE” becomes “Hello There”.

Common mistakes

  • Using Capitalized Case for headlines. “How To Train Your Dragon” capitalizes “To”, which style guides keep lowercase. Title Case gives “How to Train Your Dragon”.
  • Forgetting proper nouns after Sentence case. Names, places, brands and acronyms come out lowercase. Read the result once and fix them.
  • Converting an all-caps headline to Title Case. When every word is in capitals, the converter cannot tell acronyms from ordinary words, so “NASA LAUNCHES NEW ROVER” becomes “Nasa Launches New Rover”. Restore the acronym by hand.
  • Expecting one fixed style guide. AP style capitalizes prepositions of four letters or more (“With”, “From”); Chicago style lowercases every preposition, however long. This converter lowercases prepositions of up to four letters and capitalizes longer ones such as “About” and “Between”. If your publication follows a strict guide, check those words.

Why the converter gets the details right

Case is not just A to Z. The converter applies the language rules of the page, keeps emoji and accents intact, and handles text of a megabyte or more without slowing down. Everything happens on your device: nothing you paste is uploaded, logged or shared.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalized Case?

Capitalized Case puts a capital letter at the start of every word: "The Lord Of The Rings". Title Case follows English headline rules and keeps articles, short prepositions and conjunctions lowercase unless they come first or last: "The Lord of the Rings". Use Title Case for headlines and book titles, Capitalized Case for names and labels where every word must start with a capital.

Why did names and acronyms become lowercase in Sentence case?

Sentence case lowercases everything except the first letter of each sentence, so it cannot tell "London" or "NASA" from ordinary words. After converting, re-capitalize proper nouns and acronyms by hand. Title Case keeps acronyms such as NASA unless the whole text is in capitals.

Does the case converter work with accents, Cyrillic and emoji?

Yes. Accented letters (é, ñ, ü), Cyrillic and Greek change case correctly, and accents typed as separate combining marks stay on their letter. Emoji, digits, punctuation and scripts without capital letters, such as Arabic, Hebrew and Chinese, are left exactly as they are. In UPPER CASE the German ß becomes SS, as German spelling requires.

Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and your text is never sent to a server. The last text you typed is kept only in this browser, so it is still there if you reload the page; press Clear to remove it.

Can I change case in Word or Google Docs without a converter?

In Microsoft Word on Windows, select the text and press Shift+F3 to cycle through lowercase, UPPERCASE and Capitalize Each Word; Home → Change Case also has Sentence case and tOGGLE cASE. In Google Docs, Format → Text → Capitalization offers lowercase, UPPERCASE and Title Case. Both capitalize every word, including "of" and "the", so for headline-style Title Case paste the text here.
